Sometimes, you buy a record that recalibrates what is possible in rock music. This is that record. The music is immediate, sensual and has a dark soundscape and even darker undertones with the main themes being those of alcoholism and drugs. Most of the material shifts between depressed and upbeat with a few cacophonic rockers thrown in between. Sax instead of guitars work help create impressive atmospherics throughout the album and this is unquestionably one of the best and most cutting edge rock releases of the 1990s.
