While the band always had a pop element in their sound, this is where they became a hitmaking machine. Robert Smith temporarily paused the grandeur, despair, and deeply profound nature of the band's earlier releases and turned toward an accessible, infectious sound. It’s easily Cure's most accessible album and represents them best overall.
